ca124 – Nihil Obstat – The Undying Dream

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Artist: Nihil Obstat
Title: The Undying Dream
Date: 2008-04-25
Keywords: power-noise; industrial; dark ambient
01 – Time, Broken And Torn – 24:37 (320 kbps)
02 – The Paradox – 18:29 (320 kbps)

Synthesis, Vocals, Guitar Manipulation, Ambience, And Field Manipulations:
John Lithium

Two long form power-noise / industrial/ / dark ambient tracks, consisting of many different compositions created between 2005 and 2008. This LP is (for the moment) being offered as a free download, to determine if people are interested in any and/or all of the sonic elements found within these two tracks. Although the tracks are synthetic, they also contain traces of highly distorted vocals, guitar manipulation, and field recordings, thus adding additional dimensions to compositions that are not usually found in ‘typical’ noise creations. Furthermore, these noise creations also do NOT focus on furthering hateful ideologies or misanthropic tendencies, as is unfortunatly the case with many ‘extreme’ power-noise / hardcore acts. Instead, the project is aimed at creating expressive works of intense noise, distortion, and intriguing frequencies.

If, after listening to this project, you find something you enjoy and/or approve of, feel free to get in touch and share your experience on what you liked/disliked about the album.

Random Arts Music 2008

The harsh noise side-project of John Lithium, Nihil Obstat has only one objective : to create punishing, intense, and non-ideological noise, power electronic, and industrial dark ambient constructions. The two tracks contained within ‘The Undying Dream’ are two long-form compositions (mostly improvisational in nature), consisting of many different compositions I created between 2005 and 2008. Beyond severe synth processing, traces of highly distorted vocals, guitar manipulation, and field recordings can be noted within the mix, thus providing additional dimensions to the auditory barrage, elements which are not found in ‘typical’ noise creations. Furthermore, these noise creations also do NOT focus on furthering hateful ideologies or misanthropic tendencies, as is the case with many ‘extreme’ power electronics / noise musicians (which tend to detract from their otherwise awesome creations). This project instead seeks to uncover new modes of auditory intensity through varied distortions and frequencies.

This Project Sounds Like / Is Influenced By: Although we do not set out to emulate other noise artists, several bands / artists which can be considered influences or peers are: Beyond Sensory Experience, Coil, Control, Drakh, Fire In The Head, Griefer, In Slaughter Natives, Institut, IRM, Kaiten, K. Meitzer, Love Is Nothing, Merzbow, Navicon Torture Technologies, early Lustmord, Prurient, Sword Heaven, Throbbing Gristle, Wertham, and Whitehouse.

[INQ004] XIIORA – Horibunopuyar EP

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Artist: XIIORA
Title: Horibunopuyar
Date: 2008-04-10
Cat.#: INQ004
Possible Difinition: The Dark Cloud of the Underaged Vision

It is a wonder how the independent audio release could consist of just two tracks. But listening to it you will consider that music can’t say it all more effective way, and even five minutes sometimes are enough to wash your brains out. The truely conceptual INQB8R release, this EP includes remastered versions of the cult tracks composed by the mysterious guru of consciousness, published with the permission of his spirit. Avoid listening in the dark place, be afraid of something which could appear behind your shoulders, and shut up your dogs if they will madly bark: this is a record brought from the other dimension, which forces the short mutation of your internal wire.

02/RaYno HamaHar

Artist BIO: XIIORA stands for a moniker of Osvald Gee, the famous author of “Encyclopedia of Harsh”, which could be considered as a psychodelic Bible amongst its followers. Born in Makati Te Moa of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), he was actively involved in the investigation of parallel being started by Jacob Roggeveen’s sect, and later moved to Europe to build his own circle of followers. His sermon activities and proposing the facts around the knowledge which previously was considered as a myth, however, were stopped by government institutions, and he was arrested for few years. Getting free, Gee released his famous book and continued to study himself during the few dark experiments, which were resulted in filming the movie “Decoding the Human Rituals and the Gravity”, later forbidden in many countries worldwide. Gee’s death followed shortly after it, and it was shocking for his fans. Until now, the murderer of Gee is not known. After his death, the only one audio release with no other possible extensions or remixes, “Horibunopuyar”, shortly became a cult.

“My latest album under my own name (C.A. Sinclair) is called Zetatene, and consists of edited/remixed improvised pieces I made using mostly my laptop running custom software I made with PD (Pure Data). Sound-wise, it goes into a bit of a glitch/noise direction and the sound is very “raw” most of the time with lots of harsh granular sampling and stuff. Structurally, I was particularly interested in the kind of “accidental rhythms” you get through looping or LFOs and in “song-like”, progressive structures as opposed to just staying in one place for the duration of piece or jumping around between a number of places, as is often the case with this type of music.”

Recorded, edited mixed & mastered
Jan-March 2008 in various locations
Gear used: Macbook, Kaoss Pad (tracks 4, 9),
Cold Gold contact mics (track 9)
Software: Pure Data, BIAS Peak, Soundhack

Cover art & layout by C.A. Sinclair

“My name is Christopher A. Sinclair, I’m an electroacoustic computer musician currently residing in Vienna, Austria. I’ve released music on various netlabels both under my project name SSH Visor and under my real name. Most of my work is based on self-recorded instrument samples and the like and I’m influenced by all kinds of “out there” music, ranging from Merzbow to Fennesz to Can to fusion-era Miles Davis and way beyond.”
