Review: First released in 2006, “Deltroid” opened the door to the development of the new stage of progressive rock mixed with psychedelic and post roots on the alternative mainstream scene. Imagine a hybrid of such bands mixed together like British “Radiohead”, Belgian “dEUS”, US “The Bad Plus”, French “Air”, Icelandic “Sigur Rós”, which all impress this band’s members a lot – and you will get the right clue what Hungarian “Sonar” technique is related to. The only important point to know however, is that Sonar’s music presented on their first bomb single is completely vocals-free. They actually not just play standard rock instruments – they talk with them, and the listener may perceive such music information like watching a movie or reading a book. It’s specially remarkable that the leading guitarist, which is a big U2 fan, speaks to The Edge sometimes better than predecessor. Additionally, synth parts add completely fresh atmospheres expanding the epic side of such music; despite their artificial origin, they sound more than “live” in result, packing the Sonar’s simple yet smart puzzle altogether.
For emphasizing the experimental side of music of this open minded band, on INQB8R’s edition of the single, we included the most remarkable yet mysterious track from the Sonar’s early demo. The whole recording was remastered by INQB8R to achieve more delicate, smart, independant sounding comparing to their public edition tracks, and we also got a special permission from the “Grotesque Design” studio to re-publish their cover art, which gained a lot of international awards.
brunk is the solo-project of Bert Vanden Berghe, homerecording musician, born in 1977 and now living in Ghent, Belgium. Bert started with brunk in 1998; he just wanted to record and experiment with music in a free way, without stylistic restrictions or a predefined direction. Other brunk-releases are available from WM Recordings and Dog Eared Records.
The “winter ep” contains 4 tracks with a complete duration of 21 minutes, recorded in February 2008. All 4 pieces are slow, contemplative and guitar-driven with additional sounds and noises. Only “Laika’s view”, the first track, is really drone-based with floating noises and haunting melodies. The three other pieces are full of beautiful envolving guitar-melodies, enriched with background-noises, nature-sounds, talking, walking, footsteps and feedbacks.
Very calming, soothing and beauteous. The perfect release to welcome the spring.

This collection of newly remastered versions (2008) includes tracks from 5 sessions by The Dunlaps: 1985, ‘86, ‘87, ‘88 and 2005. All tracks except “Moments had” (2005) were originally recorded direct to stereo cassettes under relatively primitive recording conditions. Tracks 3, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 14 were spontaneous improvisations recorded in single takes with no overdubs (there was a bit of subsequent remixing done to the beginning of “Abridged”). On the other tracks overdubs were improvised and mixed “on the fly” while copying from one cassette deck to another. In some cases (trks 1 & 5) additional accompaniments were pre-recorded or sequenced (using samplers’ on-board sequencers) and flown into the mix live while improvising. The percussion on trk 1 was recorded to 2 short answering-machine cassette loops of different lengths. “Moments had” was recorded in 2 improvised takes to 4-trk cassette multi-track then treated and remixed by RDunlap in digital software. “To Walk a Thousand Lands” was originally an RDunlap solo recording, overdubbed with sax and additional percussion by The Dunlaps.
Frank-o: saxophone, guitar, sampler, flute, synthesizer (rhythm part on trk 2), percussion.
RDunlap: synthesizer, sampler, guitar (trks 5 & 6), percussion.
Flies: buzzing the mic (trk 2).
Brothers Richard (RDunlap) and Frank-o Dunlap live in different states and don’t see each other often, but over the years have come together for a few recording sessions, mostly during the second half of the ‘80s but also as recently as 2005. The Dunlaps have explored improvisation and production in an experimental, jazz-influenced avant-garage proto-post-rock sort of style. RDunlap is also known for his avant-garde remix and collage project dadala, PcOnTrApTiOn (eclectic alternative electronica collaboration with Johann Meier of Jopy) and his own solo work. Other recordings by The Dunlaps have been incorporated into a number of dadala tracks.
Bonding barriers between breaks and hardcore, we bring you this energy packed electro release. Comes with a) side featuring a vocal edit of the title track and a more progressive b) side with character.

The listener is guided through evolving imaginary landscapes where the gray area between synthesized sounds and their natural counterparts is explored. Electronic gestures and polyrhythms harmonize with field recordings of the bustling cities, temples and rainforests of Southeast Asia. Technology is not used to infringe upon ecological and cultural soundscapes, but accentuates their musical and ephemeral nature.
