[BP038] Phillip Wilkerson – Williams Park EP

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Artist: Phillip Wilkerson
Title: Williams Park EP
Cat#: BP038
Date of release: 15 Jun, 2009
Styles: Ambient, Experimental, Glitch
Format: File, MP3, 320k

Williams Park is in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. It is the city’s first park and encompasses an entire city block between 4th and 3rd Streets North and between 2nd and 1st Avenues North. Founded in 1888 and originally named “City Park,” it was changed to Williams Park in honor of the founder of St. Petersburg, John Constantine Williams Sr.

The park is the center of the downtown business district and has been the venue for numerous political and civic rallies and celebrations for more than one hundred years. In 1964, Richard Nixon used the bandstand to speak to a large group gathered in the park on behalf of then presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. Many downtown workers flock to the park in good weather for picnics during their lunch breaks. At one time, the park was surrounded by prestigious department and retail stores. In the past 25 years, most of them have moved away to malls and other areas away from the city center. The bandstand plays a prominent role in the park and one has been there since 1894.

The bandstand is still used for many outdoor concerts during the noon hour and on weekends, but for groups which tend to attract smaller crowds.

The park is also a haven to the city’s homeless population.

Kahvi#270:Kilowatts / Six Silicates

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Kilowatts is back – after his highly successfull track featured on Robot Dreams, Kilowatts returns to Kahvi with a six track ep entitled ‘six silicates’.

After the pure ambiance of casimirs blake, Six Silicates turns the mood with beat driven electronica/techno, fast paced and dynamic vibes and a definite ‘euphoric’ theme throughout. A warm and friendly ep to welcome the summer months, listen and enjoy the sun!

Track of choice: Amethyst.

This release sees the new podcast format being used for the first time. Instead of seperate tracks, a single crossfading mix will be put out on the podcast for each release.

If you like this ep, don’t forget that you can donate (any amount!) to the artist by clicking ‘donate’. Its a small gesture to give something back to the artist for all his hard work in the preparation of this release. (Those who donate will get a link to the FLAC versions of the tracks).

06 – Loose Park – 3:59 (320 kbps)
07 – Troost – 2:59 (320 kbps)
08 – West Bottoms – 3:38 (320 kbps)

“We haven’t much in life, yet we have so much. It is strange how important the small things become. Letters to Kansas City is an ode to H Stewart’s hometown. The songs are written about Kansas City’s neighborhoods, their moods and memories according to H Stewart. The songs were made with a cheap Casio, a used microphone, and a laptop which houses odd programs for sound manipulations. Those things coupled with the memory of home H Stewart create a voiceless album drawing on how little and how much we have in life, and how important it is to be home.”

ca277 – Exit To Exist – Harbours

Artist: Exit To Exist
Title: Harbours
#ca277
Date: 2009-06-19
Keywords: experimental; ambient; dark ambient; electronic
Tracklist:
01 – Are You Free At This Very End? – 3:29 (320 kbps)
02 – Age Of Trees – 7:58 (320 kbps)
03 – Fin Des Annees – 3:22 (320 kbps)

06 – Harbours – 5:39 (320 kbps)
07 – Daybreak’s Lament – 22:42 (320 kbps)

“Exit To Exist” is experimental music project from Minsk, Belarus. It was created in 2007 by Vitovt & Unsound Of Mind. Music combines several stylistic references with dark ambient in it’s both visions: “proto- + post-”; using quite large list of instrumental equipment. This first demo/album called “Harbours” is recorded as “live” improvisation with few elements of post-production and arrangement. Seven musical pieces are the way to represesent the inner state of their authors to potential listeners, as the special way of transpersonal communication. In evidence, there is some dual analogy, observed through conception based on the sea’s [or ocean... water... harbour... ships... wrecker...] imagery, which evokes truly powerful atmosphere of raoring chaos on one hand and correspond with deep estrangement and melancholy of human being on the other.

[xs-60] poros – labass

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

artist: poros

album: labass

release date: 20/06/2009
contact: myspace
cover art: back & front

Poros is a solo project of Paulo Vicente born in Lisbon (Portugal). Playing bass since 1987. He is also the author of the current xs records [pt netlabel] release, in which ((he presents himself as a one man band show) || (solo)) some sort of symbiosis occur between rock and electronic music, ambient, trip hop and downtempo.

Having such a passion for bass Poros bass leads the way to his admirable world of senses. Every note is played respectfully every chord has a smell, every beat a taste. You can sense different worlds in harmony. And all the other sounds increase this sense of perfume, of exotic nights, of longing for something. Carefully noises and sounds are placed in such a way that brings us closer and closer to desire.

This is we think what Paulo wants to show the world. If the word romantic wouldn’t have such a bad implication nowadays we would say that Paulo is one of the ultimate romantics of this world. And this is also what we enjoy in the music we present you, passion and reverence for this language of feelings. Hope you guys enjoy this fine release as much as we enjoyed.
