There is a special gift for our listeners with the last release (gargan039) in this year 2009. Deep Haki goes into the third round with his performance “The Room Ambience”. This time, together with his fellow musician and friend “Deep-Z”, he presents subtle deep house with ambient sound-shadings. From a certain understatement, the two musician shared out in an intangible compelling flow on their first common EP.

Diesmal zusammen mit seinem Musikerkollegen und Freund “Deep-Z” wird hintergründiger Deep-House mit ambienten Tonnuancen presentiert. Aus einem gewissen Understatement heraus entwickeln die beiden auf ihrer ersten gemeinsamen EP einen ungreifbaren zwingenden Flow.
“quite varied, from warm washed out ambient dreaminess, to buzzing crumbling drones, to squiggly spaciness, to gorgeous glistening sun baked post rock, to reverb drenched guitar drift, to thick super distorted dirgedrone, and each of those allowed to shift and shimmer, change shape, and alter sound, transform from one into the other, and then back again, the drone is definitely the root of the music here, but even that is sometimes relegated to whirring way off in the distance, while harmonics sparkle and rhythms shuffle, but just as often, the drone wipes the slate clean, and all the OTHER elements drift and whirl in the background while the drone rumbles and buzzes.”

This years collection was once again brought to you by Bobby Aherne, aka No Monster Club, aka the artist formerly known as Dublin Duck Dispensary. With him this year he brings together the likes of Canada’s finest pop star (in the making), The Macadamia Brothers, the future of shoegaze and other distortion related genres, Lean Horse Marathon, the beautiful pop sensibilities of Frost Faire, and a Bowie-like super smooth Brad Fielder at his retro finest.
Joining the selection this year, are the excellent “There Will Be Fireworks”, which closes the album, and indeed this years Rack & Ruin releases with the epic “In Excelsis Deo”. Naturally, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a new one from Mr. Aherne, and so you will also be delighted to hear his new project.
