Eugene Harrington comes from Hawthorne California where his father owned a keyboard repair shop.At a young age Eugene would deliver parts and do repairs for studios in and around the area.Eugene loved going to the studios and watching the musicians and engineers work on there projects.He became very familiar with electric keyboards and started experimenting with sounds and recording techniqes.He soon moved into the back of his fathers shop and recorded the album the Life of Eugene Harrington.It is a collection of recordings influenced by physidelic breaks and grooves.

The Yumi’s sounds are influenced by Alva Noto and all Raster-Noton’s artists and by Ryuichi Sakamoto’s piano compositions. He loves the contemporary classical composer, too.
He did an EP, “Muted”, with NakedNoisesNetlabel and partecipated to “Manifesto” compilation, for the portoghese label, Feedbackloop. He based “Brusio” a new experimental netlabel born in Italy.
Now, he’s working on new project called “Rhegma” where the music and the videos show the discontinuity of his sounds.

Quântica (Quantum) – written between February and May 2009 in Brasilia – Brazil. A piece that seeks a dialogue between the Quantum of sub-atomic matter and its dynamics in physical. The fission and nuclear fusion are abstracted into sounds that it will expand and transform, at each session, a new way of understanding the phenomenon, the sound seeks to reduce and enlarge with the transformation of their energy, their gestures and expression, that the lower part, may have the model of the whole.

It was developed using PureData (PD), Csound and Ardour in Ubuntu Jauty, and spatialization for 4-channel was held in February 2010.

Improvising music is probably the best example of kind of art where both individuality and collectivity can be expressed in one single piece. In this album, however, one can find how differently musicians act regarding of circumstances they play – solo and in ensembles – and how spontaneous collaboration can be productive when improvisers from different places of the world gather to express their creativity in music.

No doubt that for two Russian musicians – saxophonist Ilia Belorukov and pianist Roman Stolyar – there was nothing new in playing duo together – before concert in Vilnius they already have had opportunity to play (and even record) together in trio Dots & Lines. Besides, each of them is quite experienced improviser, whose manner of playing music has been formed under many different influences – from classical music to rock, from noise to ethnic music. Also, there was definitely nothing new for two outstanding Lithuanian musicians – drummer Arkady Gotesman and trombonist Skirmantas Sasnauskas – in a situation when they meet “strangers’ right on stage and play with them – they did that dozens of times before. But in the world of improvising music everything is new when one starts improvise – with no plans, no scores, no agreement with his own self or with other participants of improvising ensemble. Every piece played by such kind of ensemble will never be repeated in its exact shape – and only recording can remind us how that was. Well, here is live recording of fifty-minute performance of absolutely spontaneous music – a result of sudden collaboration of four musicians from Russia and Lithuania which happened in Vilnius at one warm December night. Enjoy.

Counterspark is the solo project of Johnny Utterback of Richmond, Virginia. A visual artist by trade, Johnny began experimenting in sound in 2006. From that point on, Counterspark has been a project of experimentation in the world electronic music. Rich textures and lush soundscapes with an underlying tone of optimism are all intertwined into the melancholy compositions that are Counterspark.

The sounds of The Halpern Experiment were sourced from a “healing sounds” cassette, found in a thrift store amongst the piles of one hit wonders. Not finding any value in the cassette’s listening experience, the tape was cut into loops and abstracted. With the focus on the textural elements of the tape and relationships of the melodies, the project became a healing method in itself. Providing refuge from reality in a swirling world of analog color and warmth, The Halpern Experiment was two years in the making.

With mastering by Tanner Menard, the eight movements truly come to life.

The concept is pretty simple: Anyone who wants to participate, presents each day a band releasing its music under a Creative Commons license. A run into europeans winter’s breeze let’s us try to bring the
december mood to a spring-like reunion full of kisses. Still
hidden we are happy about an upcoming phonocake release by Modul,
while we can already listen one of the tracks here.

As a debut we can find tracks by diverse local heroes, e.g.
Hofuku Sochi, who could be known from his netrelease at Camomille,
called the lost tapes. Or welcome revived Sandrow Mitzschke,
who could be better known in Dresden as Sören Matschiste. And
besides this a smooth nice track by Insect O., which opens the
hope for a nice upcoming spring time. Sören and Insect O. live
the Dresden based record label ETUI, which is successfull
especially in the field of Deep Techno House .

Also with us are friends from Tallinn, Barcelona, Krasnodar,
Montevideo und Florence again. And there are two new projekt
names to be found: Captain Snorehead and One Day In Metropia,
while the last one could also be known from live sets in the
Altes Wettbüro or Schleife 9, one location, which was voted
in local electronic life event magazine (www.banq.de) on
position one of the best locations in 2009, but sadly is no
more active in 2010.

There can’t be too many of ZGress’ label mates who request that their record goes up when Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” is still in the popular conscious of the listener. So rather disturbingly, I have to now hope that you still recall that release, late in 2009.

The reference refers to the third track on this Untitled EP, called “Dance Party”, whose repeated chorus, “this is not a Nashville party” will undoubtably stick in your head as much as the aforementioned Miss Cyrus… although you will of course maintain your ‘cool points’.

That track is cemented between some more sturdy ZGress work, “DP Show Television Theme”, which starts off as a childlike television ode, before going off on a tangent that a lot of avant-garde musicians would be proud of, the slow “Sad Songs” has a solo that would not be too out of place on a Mort Garson plant ballad, and the more upbeat but equally fulfilling “Let’s Stop”.

The Crete journey was organized by our friend Victor Victorov, passionate traveler and photographer. He visited almost 30 countries around the world, and everywhere he’s trying to capture the most interesting and significant places.

In 2010 Victor visited People’s Republic of China, where he took pictures and make some field recordings exclusively for top-40.org. Extremely vivid and unconventional experience, imaginative journey through amazing locations in spacious and challenging country of China!

With this first full-length album released by Mixgalaxy Records dark-ambient composer Stanislav Tretyakov, who works under an alias of Talemore introduces himself to the listeners of our label. As you may have already figured, you are about to be moved to the obscure side of ambient music. This record comprehends a rich spectre of those elements that formed the genre: dismal drones and dreary pads building up a strong atmosphere, some field recordings, some anthropogenic sound effects deliver deeper immersion. Tracks vary from Eastern flavored solemn compositions with chanting voices, woodwinds and ethnic percussion to mysterious futuristic soundscapes. Die fünfte Spielmann Musik präsentiert euch Jocksten. Nach dem Debut auf der Interplay Vol.1 erscheint von dem Stuttgarter Produzenten in Kürze die “Start The End EP”. Sein düsterer- mechanischer Sound passt perfekt zu Spielmann Musik, sodass gleich klar war, dass wir diesen talentierten Newcomer mit an Board holen. Zu seinen drei eigenen Tracks gesellt sich ein Remix von Danjel Esperanza, den man wohl nicht näher vorstellen muss. Regelmäßig finden sich die Releases von Danjel in den Charts und DJ Sets von angesagten Acts wie Stefan Bodzin, Matthias Schaffhäuser, Loco Dice, Matt Star und vielen anderen wieder.

When a Jamie Stewart produced musician recommends a band to you, then it is certainly worth investigating – even more so, when M31 list Spaceman 3, Nirvana, Silver Apples and … Mazzy Star as their influences.

M31 were formed in July 2009, when the final piece of the jigsaw was found via a Craigslist ad. The culmination of these likeminded individuals has led to a ceaseless list of shows, with a SXSW appearance in the not too distant future.

Musically M31 wear their hearts on their sleeves, they make loud noisy music – aggressive psychedelia with callous punk spitting down the microphone. Rollins type barks shoot out from a barrage of beats, and vivid guitar strikes.

“Infected Dreams” is a powerful release, raw when it needs to be, but always controlled and purposeful. It is not one that will rock you to sleep at night, but certainly one to kick you up the ass.

“La Differanza” was released in 2000 as the second SADO’s record.
This is the 10th anniversary edition, specially remixed for free download.
An early work of SADO but still very representative of the band. Based on Jacques Derrida’s “Difference” notion. Jacques Derrida begins the essay “Différance” (perhaps the most systematic articulation of the non-concept that, according to Derrida, he “has been able to utilize” in previous works) by talking about the letter a and trying to explain (though not justify; instead perform an “insistent intensification of its play”) the neologism that he developed. In the first few paragraphs of the essay, he talks about writing and how the neologism (”neographism” he calls it) is “a lapse in the discipline and law” of that system, a sort of distruption in writing and, if I may add, in language and the order of signs in general.
Sado’s “LA DIFFERANZA” follows this scheme, nothing more, nothing less.
