There must be quite a few of you waiting for this posting, so here goes the good news. Alec Empire from Atari Teenage Riot dropped us a line today with a couple of words about the Atari Teenage Riot ‘Collapse of History’ Remix Contest, letting us know how the judging went and who are the final winners. Few of you have spotted the recently released Remixes EP, but don’t worry, the top prize of the competition is even much sweeter!
Here it goes:
“We fought, debated, hated each other, threw molotov cocktails and stones… but finally we have agreed on the winners! You should have seen the DHR office versus DIM MAK office… it was London against Los Angeles and back. Tears, mp3 files thrown around, yes, it was heated…
Finally Steve Aoki and me, Alec Empire, had a long Skype call about it. You may wonder WHY THE WAIT, WHY THE DRAMA? BECAUSE YOU, yes, YOU! SENT IN TOO MANY GOOD REMIXES!
Usually these things generate 50 remixes, all pretty much bad and stuff, and 5 are maybe okay or so… but in this case we had over 130 (!!!) – so again THANK YOU ALL for that!!!!!!
That’s an amazing result but made it very hard to judge on. Anyone else who is reading this, please check out ALL remixes, they go from Dubstep, Breakcore, Techno, 80s Synth, 8bit, Reggae (!!!?) to Noise and more… this is what one can do with a song!
So this is what we’re going to do. We have put the official remixes out as an EP first without the single track. You can get those now on all DSPs.
The remix competition winner is going onto the SINGLE release (to really stand out!)”
So here are the chosen remixes followed by the very grand winner:
4th place goes to 8 Bit Resurrection
Congrats, you are entitled to a 1-year Lite upgrade for your SoundCloud account.
3rd goes to No One Knows Remix
Congratulations there, you will also be rewarded with a Lite upgrade for your SoundCloud account.
2nd goes to Toshihiro Ogihara HRE Remix
Congrats as well, the Lite upgrade is yours.
And… The winner is !!!!
Tits & Clits Remix
We bow before you, well done. As Alec mentioned, the remix will be released on the Atari Teenage Riot – Collapse of History, the single. Also, our mates from SoundCloud offer you a 1 year upgrade to Pro for your SoundCloud account, while Headliner.fm will make you a Pro on their network for one month to blast about your success.

The ’20 years of Soma Records Remix Contest’ with Silicone Soul has found its winners.
Below, you can read Soma’s thoughts on the comp, as well as the individual feedback on each of the top 5 winning remixes. Enjoy and in case you are one of the winners, please follow the instructions mentioned towards the end of the post!
Soma Records: “First of all, what a competition this has been. It took us months to go through the remixes. We wanted to be sure we lived with the tracks for long enough to make sure we had made the right decision. Silicone Soul were delighted with the standard of remixes, and at one point our shortlist was about 50 tracks long. Finally we have decided on our final list. It has been a pleasure listening to everyone’s interpretation of the song, and from all the staff at Soma Records, and Silicone Soul themselves, thank you for taking part.
Now here are the winners:
Coming in at 5th place) Zadiques Chill Remix
Silicone Soul say: Enjoyed this version a lot, as although using a lot of the original parts, the imaginative change of direction to a more laid back deeper vibe really works and compliments the original well. Cool vibe and a very enjoyable listen.
Coming in at 4th place: Ricky’s Take a Cocktail Mix
Silicone Soul say: This remix is very well produced and deserves an honourable mention as the original parts are used with skill. It stays very true to the spirit of the original and the added “cocktail jazz” direction with the guitar adds to the fun. We could imagine listening to this, sipping a cocktail, under a palm tree in some far away island (if we ever were so lucky).
3rd place) Tommy CT Remix
Silicone Soul say: A fine remix. Strong drums but with a good contrast in his approach to and use of parts. With a good use of reverbs, it’s a version that’s really submersive that has it’s own feel and identity, due to the use of space and careful selection from the original elements. Well done Tommy.
Coming in at 2nd place) Manhattan Remix
Silicone Soul say: It was a very close call but this is a very worthy runner – up and a favourite in the Soma office. It’s easy to hear why, the strong bass rhythm and groove matched with a deeper yet heavier atmosphere really merge well and compliment the original vocal. Great arrangement too with some well chosen additional musical augmentations. This is one that’ll sound really fat on a big club system. Great remix.
And finally, in first place, winning a release on Soma and other goodies: Kultrun Remix
Silicone Soul say: This version stood out for us immediately, as it’s the kind of track we love to play in our Dj sets and one that you enjoy more with each listen. Although there’s minimal use of the original parts, the sound and groove is deep and moody. It’s probably the best way to approach an old track (nearly 8 years), as it’s important to develop your own sound when remixing. The use of our favourite line from the vocal also added to our enjoyment. Congratulations to Melbourne’s Tony Stevens!
Simple, effective and plenty of the right vibe that fits Soma and Silicone Soul: This is our worthy winner to round off a great competition. Thank you all for taking part!
