Debut release from UK/Berlin-based musician Preslav Literary School.
Directly inspired by early Jim O’Rourke recordings, the piece is
composed from a series of delayed tape sounds, reversed drones and field
recordings as well as from material extracted from open sources
including ringtones by Carsten Nicolai.

Recording sonic experiments, spoken word, birdsong and drones onto
cassette tapes and dictaphones, Preslav Literary School mixes these
sources live with other found sound (including material from lofts,
abandoned buildings and the sides of roads) to create layered
soundscapes which recontextualise the original material into new
improvised compositions. Recorded live for Resonance FM, his third
album, pretext/context, has just been released on GFDM Records.

Preslav Literary School has played performances in a wide range of
settings including at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, mima,
University of Sunderland, Stray Signals Festival, Winter Weekend
Festival, Gallery Glue and has recently supported Crevecouer and Little
Pebble (Fence Collective). Adam recently completed a sound-art
commission for Locator Art Festival 08 and is relocating to Berlin in
June to record a new album.

litmus0001 embarks on another journey to dark and beautiful corners of submental dischordian situationist impressionism with his 15th album and first Clinical Archives release, “stillorgan road”. This album, recorded and composed in the middle of a particularly long Wisconsin winter, contains six new pieces of moody lush atmospheric wide-space ambient soundscapes generated through experimental improvisation and informed with a relentless shoegazer aesthetic.

Jonathan Ewald has recorded and performed as litmus0001 since 2001. He gets strange and lovely sounds from instruments you wouldn’t expect to sound like that. He uses things like knives and chains and alligator clips and bamboo sticks on bass strings. He does things like put a contact mic on a big tin box that used to contain cheap Thai cookies, and beats the daylights out of it in front of an amp to counterpoint percussion and feedback. He improvises spacey arpeggios and plays with sliders and knobs. He runs it all through a few well chosen effects pedals and liveloops. He is influenced by many musicians, composers, artists and philosophers from diverse traditions and genres.

After the successfull Netlabel start of Anneke with the release “The Hip Back” on auflegware (alw016), here is the second step of the Berlin based talent.

This Release plays the typical duby emotional sound of the artist. The opening track “Simms dub” is a very experimentel track with unplugged instruments, for example bass-guitar and saxophon. Smulgh and Plow are slowly dubtech tunes, it creates an deep emotional atmospheric sprit.

But not enough, there are massive remix support from Thomas Marlow (Enliven). He gives us his typical bongolized touch of the track “Plouw”. The other remix comes from Jano Brook with a pumping club version of Simms Dub.

This is a compilation of some of the earliest works of the Wounded Healer released 2005-6 under different artist names. The soundlanguage is personal. Caracteristically is the tensional chords that creates soundvisions and feelings of a surrealistic art.

Segue is Jordan Sauer from Vancouver, Canada. His sound is a patchwork of textures and tones with a focus on the interplay of timbre. These sounds are created through the blending of various instruments (12-string guitar, piano, violin, melodica, glockenspiel, various percussive instruments) and incidental found sounds.

His recent release “a glass darkly” is an absolutly beautiful, meditative and touching piece of music. Haunting melodies, guitar- and piano-miniatures, fieldrecordings, string-drones are blended together carefully to a 22-minute expedition into a deep sea, a unknown forest or a pristine clearing just before sunset. Every sound evolves slowly from a little bud to a magical blossom, which fades away to become another flower again.

This is an EP Nichts and Cursed Chimera wrote back in 2007 has been dusted off and mastered at the L.A.M.P Mobile Studios in Seattle. A collaborative effect that features the fusion of hardware electronics and computer glitch programming. Nichts has been Backwards Record’s propaganda agent for the last eight years or so, releasing in 2005 “The Red Scare”. Establishing his ability to write moody instrumental music with Industrial strength beats, Nichts truly has no peers when it comes to squeezing the most out of broken drum machine, or a damaged synthesizer. He is notorious for taking broken instruments and creating music that shames similar artists using the most high tech gear and sophisticated studio equipment. Cursed Chimera, the Seattle via Anaheim terror noise blast artist that glitches with no compromises. He took the tape recordings of Nichts and ran them through the digital ringer. Mangling melodies and bitcrushing beats supplied by Nichts for Cursed Chimera’s delight, they both manage to make a Noise/Glitch/IDM album worth being hailed with the greats of Merzbow, Aphex Twin, and Skinny Puppy. I’m sure you’ll have little deaths over and over again listening to this powerful EP.

After previously releasing on Kahvi, Mikael Fyrek could be called ‘a regular’ - this ep, his fourth, is a classic example of the defining style of Mr Fyrek, good solid beats, a touch of elektro and a touch of Vangelis. An icey theme and perhaps even slightly disturbed state of mind can be seen from the track names, conveying intense emotions through music. A thoroughly enjoyable, intense, atmospheric and involving ep running at around thirty minutes ‘A thousand years and one’ is a great addition to the collective. The compilation is titled “Little Nobody presents SLAM-DUNK NINJA: The Perspicacious Remix Selection” (rather long-winded, we know!!), and there are 18 tracks in all, veering from electro to crack house, on into glitch/techno and IDM, and departures toward hip hop.

It’s a remix selection of past and present tracks originally hacked together by myself, except (18 composed by Devin Wine, and “Cocaine Speaking” originally composed by me, Jeff Willis, and Francois Tetaz.

Self-indulgent? Hell, yeah!

Phillip Wilkerson creates ambient, experimental, and minimal music, often blending elements from these various genres. Guest artist craque arrives on Kahvi.org with a unique blend of textures and IDM elements. Five track ‘Material’ verges on the style of ‘MigloJE’. Torus Europa sets the scene with its lush, drawn out passages of sound and textures and leads into the interesting ’strawberry jam’, an atonal melody drawing on a paced bass line which makes a nice combination and the extraordinary ‘organum’ (my personal favourite of this release) with ‘that’ sample hook that fits so well with the rest of the track. a great first release from craque, perhaps we`ll see more from him in the future?

Two great artists from Argentinia teamed up for a massive 14-minute sound piece: Juan Jose Calarco and Adrian Juarez. Both artists are wellknown from many releases on multiple Net- and CDr-labels all around the globe.

“Tierra Abierta” is a subtle composition. The essential groundwork on this release, holding everything together, are fieldrecordings. You can hear many natural sound like rain, creaky woods, whistling winds and rustling leaves. This earth-bound ambience is arranged artfully with generated sounds which are layered and woven together with the fieldrecording-material. The calm before the storm.

Just until the thunderstrom discharges…

The aim is to dance. Domagk creates a sound made exclusively for the dance floor. Despite having a relatively slow bpm, the rapid succession of syncopated sounds, the randomized effects, and the changes and repetitions, create a constant movement that prevents you to stop.
“Sonne ab Freitag” responds to that minimal, between tech and techno, where even the melodic elements are integrated into the base in a digital context. “Telephoneleitung Geräusche”, however, are looking a bizarre sound through analog sinths, like the underground electronic german scene in the early 90s (updated, of course, with a syncopated base and further elaboration of the transition elements among its part).
In both subjects Domagk played with the voices mixing languages and accents to bring a different touch with the works of others of his countrymen.

Nikita Golyshev, known as CD-R, and Bogdan Dullsky (Quest.Room.Project) met virtually and have recorded an album. First, they share music file sources in the net, and then processed with real-time sound recordings through peer-to-peer connection.

First CD from Moscow-based dark ambient/drone project Silence Drift. A powerful guitar ambient, improvised by one person - sound engineer and musician Maxim Komov. Dark and scary atmospheres, deep sounds and easy listening drones gets you into a journey on night streets. Music was inspired by photograph series ‘Nightwalk’ taken by Alexey Seliverstov.

Silence Drift is an dark ambient / drone project formed by musician and sound engineer Maxim Komov in late November 2007. The idea of processing & mixing recording from various record sessions with other musicians has long existed. Further experiments with mixing various records with guitar drones ended with debut videosequence called ‘We Walk Through November’ available via YouTube. In May 2008 Silence Drift releases 1st full-length CD called Aircode - the four long drone pieces inspired by amazing photographs taken by Alexey Seliverstov.

known most commonly as Sascha Müller brings
us yet another sterling EP of sound.

proc-records with his Climax EP.
slightly different from his premier release with us

this release features everything from complexingly
simple lead synths, brief vocal samples, and yes, perfect
rythem via premium drum kit execution.

Starting out the ep is the tune Wechselstrom.
A very up-tempo, percussion-driven tune, it gets the
ep off to an excellent start.

The second track (and my personal favorite of the entire ep)
is titled Portugal.
this track focuses on getting people shaking their bodies
and throwing their hands up in the air, baby!!!!
Once again, an impressive array of kicks and snares
bump the track along as an awesome bassline sequence
properly gives added bulk to the tune.
The icing on this track though is the mind-blowing synth-sequence
that comes in later on in the track..
soo good

the release comes to a close with the track Mekong Delta.
This is type of sound I most often think of when Sascha Müller
comes to my mind.
extremely effective delay lines on basic rythmic bass-lines with
an industry-standard 4/4 drum.
simply gorgeous.

simply said, this is an incredably intelligent ep from
one of my personal favorite producers EVER.
I have been a huge fan of Sascha’s work since the moment
i first laid ears on his music about 3 years ago, and I know
im not the only one who feels this way.

It gives me a huge amount of pleasure to release…

Its been a long while since Kenny Beltrey last released on Kahvi, and its always a welcome change to hear some of his ‘elektro-nu skool-techno-dance-idm-upbeat’ works.
